We finally got a chance to tailgate at Purdue. Of course, we pick one of the coldest games, but we still had a blast. We didn't actually go to the game (we never really do-the games are great, but not quite $40 a seat times 3 great) but spent the day tailgating. Purdue spanked the Hoosiers and won the Oaken Bucket back for Coach Tiller's last game. I wanted to take Xavier to see the band (the most important part of the football experience, of course.), but it was just too cold to traipse across campus. We had originally planned to bring Aubrey, too, but thankfully I got hit with a dose of common sense the day before and asked Shawn's mom to watch her. Sticking a crawling child in a constricting snowsuit would not be pretty, and she would not be thrilled to wear mittens since she loves to suck her thumb so much. It sounded like a good idea at the time we planned this, but after flashbacks of the camping trip, I was really glad we left her with Grandma C.
I didn't get many pictures because it was just too darn cold to take off my gloves, but here's Xavier and Morgan playing football. The kids had so much fun and never complained about the cold. You can also see Xavier is all partied out at the end of the day.
One of the funniest events was when we were driving through Chauncey Village on the way to tailgating. Now, for those of you not lucky enough to be Boilermakers, Purdue has a tradition known as Breakfast Club. Bars open at 7:00 a.m. on home game mornings, and people dress up in all kinds of costumes. There is nothing like getting a pitcher of screwdrivers served out of a trash can (alcohol kills germs, right???) while wearing some god-awful clothes from Goodwill and dancing the morning away. There is also nothing like stumbling out of a bar into the daylight and running into lots of visiting parents.
So, we are driving through the village and see all the students walking around in their costumes, and Xavier excitedly asks, "Is it Halloween again?" Oh no, little Xavier, it is something so much better than Halloween. Your mom will be glad to show you the ins and outs of Breakfast Club when you are a Purdue student.

Ahh... breakfast club. James was really mean to me last year and took me to breakfast club for the first time in years - however I was pregnant!!! Not fair!
