Last week, we made our annual trek to the state fair. Shawn takes a day off and loves to spend ALL day there. We started the morning out around 8:30 a.m. at the FFA (Future Farmers of America, for you city folk :) pancake breakfast, and didn't leave until close to 7:00 p.m.! The kids were great! Xavier had a blast!. We've been going since he was a baby, so it is fun to see him get more into it each year. We visited the animal barns, where the highlights were the world's largest boar (or the big, fat big, as Xavier calls him) and the sow (that's a mom pig, right?) and piglets.
Among the things we did (well, mostly Xavier)...fed and pet animals, caught a fish at the DNR fishing pond, rode an elephant, saw a circus show, watched a log cutting contest, got to be a farmer in the "Little hands on the Farm" exhibit, ate some deliciously unhealthy food, played some sports at the Indiana High School Sports exhibit, took advantage of the lactation stations for breastfeeding moms (that was limited to Aubrey and me:), checked out the old (and new) tractors, played in the "dirt", and so much more. We had a great day together and look forward to this every year. Shawn and I are really in it for the fair food, but watching the kids have so much fun is great (especially if you can watch them while eating a funnel cake.)
Note- The green hat that Xavier is wearing is one they give the kids in the "Little hands on the Farm" exhibit. No offense to farmers, but I wouldn't normally put my child in a bright green Pioneer Seed hat.

Holy crap, we would never have made it that long at the fair! We went about 10:00 in the morning and stayed until about 11:15! Maria has the same hat as Aubrey, does it have a matching dress? From the Children's Place? I love it, Maria wears hers all the time!
